A Conway man is accused of breaking into a home and hitting a man with a hammer.

Winston Leviner, 33, faces charges of Burglary 1st degree, Resisting Arrest, Attempted Murder, and Malicious Injury to Personal Property.

Leviner was booked into the J. Reuben Long Detention Center Monday.

Horry County police responded to a home on Krystal Lane in Conway last Thursday for reports of an assault.

The victim told police he was sleeping when Leviner broke into his home and tried to hit him with a large hammer.

A female witness said she woke up to see Leviner jumping over her and attacking the victim.

She ran out of the room to get help, and that is when Leviner took off, according to the police report.

The victim said he was hit on the face and head. Though the responding police officer didn't see any visible signs of injury to the man's face or head.

The female witness said she didn't see the man but she heard his voice, and knew it was Leviner because she was in a prior relationship with him, according to the report.

The victim also said Leviner damaged the hood and windshield of his car.

Leviner is being held at the J. Reuben Long Detention Center on a $25,000 bond for Burglary.

He has already paid $12,000 on the other three charges, according to an official with the J. Reuben Long Detention Center.

Leviner has a lengthy criminal record.

He was arrested in April, June and July of 2012 on numerous charges. Those include Assault and Battery by a Mob, Harrassment and Burglary, among others.
