Sunday morning, a fire destroyed an historic 8,000 square foot home in Horry County.

Horry County Fire Rescue responded to 8310 West Highway 19, in Loris, for a fire at the Rankin House at approximately 2:00 a.m. Sunday.

The fire was called in by a passerby. The house was vacant and there were no injuries reported.

The house was a complete loss, and the cause of the fire is currently under investigation.

Midway Fire Rescue is conducting the investigation due to Horry County fire investigators being tied up with the fire at Windsor Green condos in Carolina Forest. 109 units were burned when a grass fire spread to 26 buildings, destroying them.

In August 2008, we covered a suspected arson at the Rankin House. You can read that story here.
