The Scotland County Board of Commissioners wants to know why eight brand new patrol cars were delivered to its sheriff's department without their approval.

The Board of Commissioners chairman Guy McCook says they didn't initially approve the purchase of the cars and cited miscommunication between Scotland County Sheriff Shep Jones and officials with the car dealership.

The board decided to buy six of the eight patrol cars delivered to the Scotland County Sheriff's Office.

McCook says during a meeting Monday night they learned one of Jones' department captains actually ordered the cars without Jones' knowledge.

We're told that captain would be disciplined.

McCook says they went ahead and voted to buy the cars because the vehicles were already outfitted with cameras and two had an additional K-9 package.

The six cars will cost the county $220,000.
