Horry County Fire Station 8 that services the Juniper Bay area unveiled their brand new fire station on Saturday.

This was a much anticipated opening after Horry County announced two years ago that station 8 would be receiving a new building. Construction was delayed, but the firehouse finally opened in November of 2012.

The new fire house can fit their full-time staff comfortably and have extra room for administrative duties as well.

"We've got plenty of room to do anything we want to do instead of just a small facility what we had down the street," said firefighter Phillip Richardson.

Station 8 can now be used for drills and training. In the past, they had to travel to other facilities in the county.

Station 8 held their grand opening to the media and public on Saturday but they're hoping to make their firehouse a home for the community.

"Better arrangement to have the community come in, 'cause we want to be a part of the community in Juniper Bay," said Assistant Fire Chief Scott Thompson.

Thompson and Richardson invite the public to stop in and see the new station they are so proud of.
