South Carolina Highway Patrol responded to a single car crash that killed two people around 4:20 a.m. Wednesday on Greenfield Road near Brooks Drive in Darlington.

The car was traveling north when it ran off the road and hit a tree, according to troopers.

Darlington County Coroner Todd Hardee pronounced Andre Lamont Bertrand, 27, of Hartsville, and Fredrick Jamal Jackson, 20, of McBee, dead at the scene. Both men were thrown from the car.

Two others in the car were taken to McLeod Regional Medical Center, where they are listed in serious condition.
