Around 3:30 p.m. Friday, Horry County firefighters and officers with the Department of Natural Resources were called to Red Bluff Landing off Highway 905 in Horry County for a report of a swimmer in distress, according to Leslie Yancey, with Horry County Fire Rescue.

A local animal rescue group saved a dog from the Lowcountry. The dog, named Mackenzie, suffered from internal injuries, a broken jaw, and a severe cut to the face. She's doing well now after undergoing surgery.
