A 42-year old South African stunned the golf world by winning the British Open on Sunday at Royal Lytham and St. Anne's in Lancashire, England. Ernie Els won his fourth major championship after shooting a final round of 2-under par 68. Els won the tournament by a single stroke when Adam Scott bogeyed the final four holes.

Els made a 15-foot birdie putt on the final hole. He headed to a practice green by the clubhouse to see if his score was good enough to get him into a playoff. After Scott bogeyed the 72nd hole, Els calmly celebrated and headed to the 18th hole to pick up the Claret Jug for the second time in his career.

The 6'3" Els, who is known around the golf world as The Big Easy, has now won two British Opens and two U.S. Opens.

Tiger Woods never made a charge. He made a triple-bogey during his final round and shot 3-over par 73. Woods ended up 3-under for the four days to finish tied for 3rd with Brandt Snedeker. Meanwhile, former Coastal Carolina All-American Dustin Johnson finished tied for 9th place after carding a 1-over par 71 to end up even par for the tournament.
