Former Coastal Carolina All-American Dustin Johnson won the St. Jude Classic at the TPC Southwind course in Memphis, Tennessee on Sunday. Johnson finished the four-day event 9-under par to win by one shot over John Merrick.

In only his second PGA Tour event after a back injury that sidelined him for ten weeks, Johnson, who started the day two shots off the pace, worked his way past the leaders with birdies on the 16th and 17th holes to surge into the lead and claim the top prize of $1.008 million.

Johnson shot a final round of 4-under par 66. He is the first player since Tiger Woods to win in each of his first five seasons on Tour out of college. With six career wins, Johnson, 27, has more than any player on Tour under the age of 30.

Johnson finished tied for 19th at the Memorial last week. It was his first tournament since injuring his lower back while trying to lift a jet ski back in March. He will play in his fifth U.S. Open next week at The Olympic Club in San Francisco, California. He has never won a major. His best U.S. Open finish was eighth in 2008 at Torrey Pines.
