College Baseball 4/14: Gamecocks and CCU win, Clemson loses

The 9th ranked South Carolina Gamecocks have rebounded nicely following a 5-4 loss at Francis Marion earlier this week. For the second straight day, the Gamecocks beat the Mississippi State Bulldogs in Columbia. A crowd of 8,242 watched South Carolina beat Mississippi State 5-3 on Saturday at Carolina Stadium. Freshman left-hander Jordan Montgomery (3-0) tossed 6.1 innings of scoreless ball and Matt Price cleaned up with two scoreless frames to pick up his third save. St. James High graduate Tanner English went 3-for-4 at the plate, including a triple, a stolen base, two runs scored and an RBI for the Gamecocks. South Carolina's overall record is now 26-10, 7-7 in the SEC.

The 17th ranked N.C. State Wolfpack beat the Clemson Tigers 3-1 with 5,619 looking on at Doug Kingsmore Stadium in Clemson, South Carolina. Carlos Rodon (6-0) threw eight innings of three-hitt ball for the Wolfpack. Trea Turner drove in two runs for N.C. State. The series is tied 1-1 with the tie-breaker coming up on Sunday at 1 p.m. Clemson's overall record falls to 20-16, 9-8 in the ACC.

The Coastal Carolina Chanticleers shutout the VMI Keydets 3-0 with 678 watching at Watson Stadium in Conway, South Carolina. Sophomore pitcher Tyler Herb (6-2) tossed a career-high eight innings of shutout ball with seven strikeouts. Tucker Frawley went 3-for-4 with an RBI. Coastal Carolina improves to an overall record of 23-11, 6-2 in the Big South Conference. Sunday's VMI at CCU game can be seen on ESPNU at 2 p.m.
