South Carolina 2 Tennesee 1

Columbia, S.C. - LB Dantzler's one-out single in the bottom of the ninth lifted 10th ranked South Carolina to a 2-1 win over Tennessee on Saturday evening at Carolina Stadium. South Carolina improved to 22-9 and 4-7 in the SEC while loss drops Tennessee to 20-11 and 6-5 in league play. The rubber game of the series is set for 1:30 p.m. on Sunday afternoon and can be heard on the Gamecock Radio Network form IMG College.

South Carolina received a tremendous start from freshman lefthanderJordan Montgomery, who allowed just one run on three hits in eight innings of work. He struck out seven and walked none in the no-decision. Montgomery's solid work on the mound set the Gamecocks up for the victory. With the score deadlocked at 1-1 in the bottom of the ninth, the Gamecocks looked to score the final run as Connor Bright led off with a single to left field. Grayson Griener moved Bright to second on a sacrifice bunt and Bright continued to third on a wild pitch from Tennessee reliever Carter Watson. With one out and runners on the corners, Dantzler drove the first pitch he saw to deep center field scoring the winning run.

Tyler Webb earned the win and improved to 3-0 on the season. He pitched a perfect ninth inning. Watson took the loss and is now 3-1 for the year.

Clemson 11 Duke 5

Durham, NC -Thomas Brittle went 4-for-6 with a triple, double, five RBIs, and three runs to lead Clemson’s 15-hit attack in its 11-5 win over Duke in front of 1,123 fans at Jack Coombs Field on Saturday afternoon.  The Tigers, who took a 2-0 series lead, improved to 17-14 overall and 7-7 in the ACC.  The Blue Devils fell to 13-19 overall and 5-9 in ACC play.

For the second game in a row, the Tigers did not trail at any point.  The Tigers held a 3-2 lead until they scored two runs in the sixth and one run in the top of the seventh to take a 6-2 lead.  Duke clawed back with three runs in the bottom of the seventh to cut Clemson’s lead to one run.  However, the Tigers added five runs in the ninth inning, keyed by Brittle’s three-run double, and won their fifth game in a row over the Blue Devils.

Starter Dominic Leone (5-2) earned the victory by striking out nine in 6.1 innings pitched.  He gave up nine hits, four runs, and two walks, but worked out of several jams.  Patrick Andrews recorded his second save of the year by pitching the final 2.2 innings.  He surrendered three hits and one run with one strikeout.

Trent Swart (3-4), the first of four Duke pitchers, suffered the loss.  He allowed 10 hits, four runs, and one walk with six strikeouts in 5.1 innings pitched.

Coastal Carolina 11 Gardner-Webb 4 (game one)

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. - Alex Buccilli and Daniel Bowman each had three hits and Justin Creel drove in three to lead #28 Coastal Carolina to an 11-4 win in the first game of a Saturday doubleheader at Gardner-Webb.

While the offense was clicking, Chanticleer starter Austin Wallace (2-0) pitched a career-high six innings and struck out five with no walks. He did allow seven hits and four runs, but only three were earned. Ryan Connolly worked the final three innings, scattering four hits, to get his sixth save of the season.

Gardner-Webb 7 Coastal Carolina 3 (game two)

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. - In game two, the Bulldogs scored three in the first and three in the eighth to claim a 7-3 victory at Moss Stadium.

Coastal Carolina is now 20-10 on the season, 4-2 in Big South play, while Gardner-Webb is 17-16, 3-6. While the Chanticleers won the weekend series, two games to one, the win by the Bulldogs in game two Saturday was the first by Gardner-Webb in 13 tries. Coastal was 10-0 all-time versus GWU prior to the weekend and won the first games of this weekend's series.

Gardner-Webb took its first lead of the series, scoring three in the first inning. Zeke Blanton and Ryan Hodge drew leadoff walks and John Harris followed with an RBI single, leaving runners on the corners. Dusty Quattlebaum made it consecutive hits with an RBI double, ending the day for starter Patrick Corbett (2-2). Aaron McFarland made it 3-0 with a sacrifice fly to left field.

From that point, Ryan Connolly and Ben Smith held the Bulldogs in check until the bottom of the sixth when Brad Collins had a leadoff double and GWU put runners on the corners Henry Rundio reached on fielder's choice error. After an out and a wild pitch put runners on second and third, Austin Ker came out of the CCU bullpen to face Hodge, who executed a suicide squeeze and put Gardner-Webb up 4-0. The run scoring is the first inherited runner Kerr has allowed to score since his first outing (coming into the Virginia game with the bases loaded), a span of 17 runners he left stranded.
