(AP) -- CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) - Clemson reserve tailback Mike Bellamy has been suspended for the Atlantic Coast Conference championship game for violating team rules.

Tigers coach Dabo Swinney announced the move Saturday before the 21st-ranked Tigers took on No. 5 Virginia Tech at Bank of America Stadium.

The freshman had traveled with the team to Charlotte, but returned to Clemson on Saturday. Bellamy was the Tigers' second-leading rusher with 343 yards on 57 carries. However, he'd only carried the ball 11 times for 38 yards in Clemson's past three games.

One of Bellamy's best performances this season came in Clemson's 23-3 victory over Virginia Tech last October as he ran for 47 yards and a touchdown.
