The 12th ranked South Carolina Gamecocks now have a 2-0 record in the SEC after beating the Vanderbilt Commodores 21-3 in Columbia on Saturday. Marcus Lattimore caught one TD pass and ran for another to help the Gamecocks improve its overall record to 4-0.
The Gamecocks trailed 3-0 early. Quarterback Stephen Garcia threw a career-high four interceptions. He completed 16 of 30 passes for 228 yards and one TD. South Carolina head coach Steve Spurrier pulled Garcia in the fourth quarter in favor of back-up Connor Shaw and later Dylan Thompson. But Shaw and Connor could not generate any points.
The bright spot on offense was Lattimore. He rushed the ball 20 times for 77 yards with one TD. Lattimore also caught three passes for 77 yards, including a 52-yard TD reception.
The Gamecocks defense was solid, holding Vandy to just 77 net yards, and racking up six sacks, including two apiece from Jadeveon Clowney and Melvin Ingram. One of Clowney's sacks resulted in a fumble recovery for a touchdown by Ingram.
South Carolina will play the Auburn Tigers next Saturday, October 1 in Columbia. Kickoff time has not been determined.
