Scott Harvey wins Carolinas Amateur at Dunes Club

Greensboro, North Carolina golfer Scott Harvey won the Carolinas Amateur Championship at the Dunes Golf and Beach Club in Myrtle Beach on Sunday. Harvey rallied on the final day to win by two strokes over three other North Carolina players. His final round of 1-under par 71 was good enough for a four-day total of 7-under par.

The 33-year old Harvey joins his father Bill Harvey on the Carolinas Amateur trophy. Bill Harvey has won this event three times. 2010 Carolinas Amateur Champion Logan Harrell from Huntersville, North Carolina never challenged in this year's event. Harrell, who plays college golf for the South Carolina Gamecocks finished nine shots back and tied for 16th place.

Randleman, North Carolina's Brock Elder took a one shot lead into the final round. He shot 2-over par to finish 5-under for the 72 hole event and tied for second place with two other players from the Tar Heel state, Grant Houser from Holly Springs and Trevor Cone from Concord.

The top finisher from either the Grand Strand or Pee Dee was Mitchell Gray from Florence. Gray, who is a rising senior at Campbell University, finished tied for 12th. Cheraw native McCuen Elmore, who is a fifth year senior at Clemson, shot a 75 on Sunday to end up 3-over for the tournament and tied for 19th. West Florence High product Stephen Behr ended up tied for 26th place. Georgetown's Rion Moore finished 13-over par but finished strong shooting 2-under par 70 on Sunday.

The top 30 finishers earned an exemption into the 2012 Carolinas Amateur Championship that will be played at Charlotte Country Club in Charlotte, North Carolina.
