Garden City's Cam Richards has surfed his way into the quarter-finals at the National Scholastic Surfing Association Nationals (NSSA) in Huntington Beach, California. Richards, who attends St. James High, finished tied for first in a round two heat. The 15-year old South Carolina surfer then placed second in round three to earn a trip into Sunday's quarters. A champion will be crowned on Sunday.

The NSSA requires competitors to maintain academic standards in order to compete. More than 80 NSSA events are held throughout the year with champions crowned at the Nationals. The NSSA Nationals is regarded as one of the higest profile surfing events in the United States.
