Both the Clemson and South Carolina baseball teams have been selected to host one of 16 NCAA Regionals when the NCAA Tournament begins this week. Coastal Carolina, (41-18) after winning the Big South Conference Tournament, also made the field with an automatic berth but will not host.
Clemson (41-18) won two out of three games at the ACC Tournament, but lost a tie-breaker to Florida State for a chance to play for the conference title that was eventually won by Virginia. The Cavaliers beat the Seminoles 7-2 in the ACC Tournament Championship game. Clemson did not host a regional last season, but still made it to the College World Series. The Tigers are one of five ACC teams picked to host a Regional this year.
The defending national champion South Carolina Gamecocks (45-15) were also picked to open the tournament at home despite not making it to the SEC Championship game that was won by the Florida Gators in a 5-0 win over Vanderbilt. The 64 team NCAA Tournament field will be announced on Monday at 12:30 p.m.
