The SCHSL executive committee voted 13-2 to formally approve the split of Class 2A football. The 2A schools will be divided into Division I and Division II with every school making the post-season. The top four teams in each Division for both upper state and lower state will receive a first round bye.
The State: SCHSL splits 2a into two title games
The WPDE viewing area has nine class 2A teams. Here's the proposed division (not officially mandated):
Class 2A Division I
Dillon, Lake City, Loris, Kingstree
Class 2A Division II
Marion, Mullins, Andrews, Waccamaw, Aynor
As a result of this decision, there will now be seven state champions crowned in South Carolina high school football. Class 4A, 2A and 1A will all have two state champions. Class 3A will be the only division with a lone state champ. The 2A state championship games will be played on Friday, December 2nd at Benedict College in Columbia. This is part of a major reorganization of the state championships in high school football.
