Conway's Colby Holmes and John Taylor from Florence combined to pitch 4.1 innings of shutout ball in relief to help the #4 South Carolina Gamecocks beat the number one ranked college baseball team in the nation on Sunday. South Carolina rallied from a 3-0 deficit to defeat the Florida Gators 4-3 in Gainesville, Florida. The defending national champion Gamecocks took two of three from Florida in the weekend series.
Holmes pitched three shutout innings, allowing just one hit with two strikeouts. Taylor, a product of Florence Darlington Tech, tossed 1.2 innings of scoreless ball, allowing just two hits with a strikeout.
South Carolina rallied for three runs in the sixth inning and scored the go-ahead run in the eighth on a bases loaded walk to Adrian Morales that forced home Adam Matthews.
Matt Price slammed the door closing out the final 2.1 innings in relief to seal the win. South Carolina improves to an overall record of 18-5 and 4-2 in the SEC.
