CONWAY — Fans of the Coastal Carolina men’s soccer team gathered at Beef-O-Brady’s Monday afternoon in Carolina Forest to learn with the rest of the nation its first round opponent to the NCAA Championships by watching the ESPNU telecast. The verdict was the Duke Blue Devils with the match being played in Durham, N.C., this Thursday (Nov. 18).

The Chants, who had 12 wins this season, earned a berth to the 2010 NCAA Championship by winning its 10th Big South Tournament since 1986. This will make Coastal’s eighth NCAA berth and the sixth under head coach Shaun Docking, who led the Chants to the NCAA postseason in 2001, ‘02, ‘03, ‘04 and ‘05.

“The guys are very excited to make it to the NCAA Tournament and to play Duke,” Docking said. “They have one of the top goal scorers in the nation and they are very well coached. I mean .... It’s Duke. For sure, this will be a huge game for us. I am excited for this opportunity and to see if we can compete.

“This is a fantastic for our program. I am thrilled for our seniors and the guys who have worked so hard this year. This is also great for our alumni, who laid the foundation for this team and created a great soccer culture at Coastal Carolina University.”
