CONWAY - Coastal Carolina quarterback Zach MacDowall has been named the Big South Football Offensive Player of the Week, while sophomore defensive end Jamel Davis was tabbed the league's Defensive Player of the Week for their performances in the Chanticleers' 35-7 win at Presbyterian Oct. 16.

MacDowall (Acworth, Ga.) accounted for 301 yards of total offense and was responsible for four touchdowns, passing for three and rushing for one. The senior rushed for a career- and game-high 97 yards on 11 attempts (8.8 per carry) and scored a 16-yard touchdown. Through the air, MacDowall was 11-of-21 for 204 yards and had TD passes of seven, 26 and 134 yards. It marks the fourth time in MacDowall's career he has thrown three TDs in a game.

After starting the game completing just 2-of-9 passes, MacDowall finished the contest completing 9 of his last 12. The turnaround came after a 62-yard completion to Marquel Willis, marking the fifth-longest completion in CCU history. The next play after the 62-yard completion, MacDowall scored his 16-yard TD. Of his 11 carries, five went for 12 or more yards, including carries for 12, 16, 19, 20 and 17 yards. The TD carry was his 11th of his career, ranking fifth on the CCU all-time list.

Davis (Richmond, Va.) earned the honor despite playing just the first half, missing the second half with an injury. The sophomore recorded five tackles, including 1.5 sacks, with a pass break up. The pass break up came during PC's first series on 3rd-and-10, forcing a three-and-out punt. At the end of the first quarter, Davis and Brian Sanders teamed up for a sack on third down, forcing a punt. In the second quarter, Davis came through with two huge stops on back-to-back plays. First, facing 3rd-and-1 on the CCU 14, Davis stopped Blue Hose running back Trandon Dendy for no gain. On the next play, on 4th-and-1 from the CCU 14, Davis sacked Presbyterian quarterback Ryan Singer for four yards, ending the PC threat.

This marks the fourth time MacDowall has been named Big South Offensive Player of the Week and this marks the first weekly honor for Davis. The two join Tarvorris Jolly as Big South weekly honorees this season as Jolly was the league's Special Teams Player of the Week after Coastal's win over Delaware State.

Coastal Carolina will return to action this Saturday, hosting Stony Brook for Homecoming. Kickoff is set for 7:30 pm and the game will be televised on MASN (Mid-Atlantic Sports Network).
