Andrews 2010 Preview

Palmetto Pigskin's Andrews Preview

Heading into his second season, Steve Blanchard has settled in at Andrews - his squad might have had only two wins, but the Yellowjackets brought a good attitude that has carried over into 2010.
“We’ve had a lot of changes at Andrews, a lot for the better and the kids are working hard,” the second year head man said.  “We’ve got the community behind us and everyone is on the same page right now.”
When you talk about great quarterbacks in the area, no one talks about Ken Funnye, but the Andrews signal caller may be the best QB flying under the radar. Opponents aren't laughing when Funnye tucks it and runs.
Funnye also made history last year on defense when he had a 108 yard interception return for a score against archrival Georgetown.
Another athlete who makes plays on both sides of the ball is Shaq Williams who will play at running back and defensive back.  Look for Clarence Penny and Larry Brown to get touches in the backfield as well.
Andrews got a big boost to its offensive line with Loris transfer Michael Mabry.  The 6’1”, 285 pound senior has a 3.89 GPA and will join Tyler Cooper and ScottWard on a line that will likely play both ways.
The Yellowjackets return 16 starters and will be in a tough region that features the likes of Timberland, Manning and now Lake City. If the Yellowjackets stay healthy, there's more than a good chance that they'll improve on last year's 2-8 record.
“I’m really looking forward to seeing what these kids have done in the off-season, and built themselves up follow up on the things we asked from them as coaches.” Blanchard said.
