The North Myrtle Beach Chiefs won the South Carolina Class 3A Volleyball Championship by defeating Pickens High three sets to one at White Knoll High on Saturday.

The Lady Chiefs lost the first set 25-21, but rallied to take the next three by scores of 25-18, 25-17 and 25-9. It is the first state volleyball title in school history, and the first state championship by a girls team at North Myrtle Beach High since 1990.

Led by captain Taylor Allman, North Myrtle Beach lost only four sets all year, finishing with a record of 30-1. Following the big win, Lady Chiefs head coach Estelle Barentine announced her retirement after nearly four decades of coaching, according to North Myrtle Beach Athletics Director Joe Quigley.
