The Coastal Carolina Chanticleers ended a school record four game losing streak with a 34-7 victory over the VMI Keydets, before a crowd of 7,281 at Foster Stadium in Lexington, Virginia.

Coastal Carolina jumped out to a 14-0 first quarter lead on a 19-yard TD run by Jeremy Height, and a 16 yard scoring scamper by Lorenzo Taliaferro.

The Chants extended their lead to 21-0 at halftime, Aramis Hillary threw a 10-yard TD pass to DeMario Bennett. Hillary completed 11 of 19 passes for 114 yards and one touchdown.

Coastal's ground game was spectacular, racking up 331 net yards. Height led the charge with 97 yards on 12 carries.

Lorenzo Boyles came up with a big special teams play, scoring on a blocked punt in the third quarter to give the Chants a 28-0 advantage. It was the first blocked kick for a score for CCU since 2006, when South Florence High product Braden Cannon made a block and Marlboro County's Quinton Teal recovered for a TD.

Alex Catron booted a pair of field goals to close out the scoring for CCU.

Former Cheraw High star Travis Small had five carries for 27 yards.

The Coastal defense held VMI to just 16 yards rushing. The Chants had five sacks against VMI. Quinn Backus had one, registering a team-high nine stops.

Coastal Carolina will host the Liberty Flames on homecoming next Saturday, October 27 at Brooks Stadium in Conway, South Carolina. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m.
