The NCAA has accepted the University of South Carolina's self-imposed penalties regarding a 2010 violation primarily centered around student-athletes staying at the Whitney Hotel in Columbia at a reduced rate.   The USC athletic program is on three years probation and the football program loses three scholarships over the next two years along with official visits reduced from 56 to 30 during this upcoming recruiting season.  The NCAA's Committee on Infractions could have imposed more penalties including a post-season ban, but said that the University's cooperation went beyond the obligations under NCAA bylaws.

"The University regrets the past actions and decisions by individuals that resulted in violations of NCAA legislation," Eric Hyman, USC director of Athletics said. "We are pleased, however, that the Committee on Infractions found the corrective actions we have taken and the penalties we have self-imposed reflect the University's commitment to full compliance with NCAA rules."

"We appreciate the Committee on Infractions' thoughtful consideration of our case, " Dr. Harris Pastides, USC president, said. "This experience has strengthened our compliance office and our resolve to ensure that our athletics program operates in full compliance with NCAA legislation."
