Shabazz Muhammad is the top rated senior high school basketball player in the country. The 6-foot-6 guard from Las Vegas will try to help Bishop Gorman win another Beach Ball Classic championship at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center. Muhammad has not yet committed to a college. He is one of more than a dozen division one prospects in this year's tournament.
16 teams will compete at Beach Ball. Only four of the teams are from South Carolina. Myrtle Beach, Socastee, Gaffney and Lexington make up the four Palmetto State entries. Mister Football winner Shaq Roland will play for Lexington.
Kobe Bryant, Jermaine O'Neal, Jason Kidd, Kevin Garnett, Vince Carter and Rasheed Wallace are just some of the big names who have played at Beach Ball. This is the 31st year of this holiday tournament that was founded by former Socastee head coach Dan D'Antoni who is now an assistant coach with the New York Knicks.
