2003 WPDE Zoneman winner Lawrence Timmons out of Wilson High tied for a team-high eight tackles, including one tackle for loss for the Pittsburgh Steelers, in a 24-0 win over the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday. Timmons is now 7th in the NFL in total tackles with 20 through the first two weeks.
Justin Durant led the Detroit Lions defense with 11 tackles on Sunday in a 48-3 win over the Kansas City Chiefs. The ex-Wilson High star had one tackle for loss. Durant and the Lions are now 2-0 on the season.
Marlboro County High product Robert Ayers of the Denver Broncos registered one tackle, including a quarterback hit and a pass defended in a 24-22 win over the Cincinnati Bengals.
Cincinnati Bengals receiver Jerome Simpson out of Coastal Carolina University, caught four passes for 136 yards, including an 84 yard reception, in a 24-22 loss to the Denver Broncos. Simpson is 15th in the NFL in receiving yards with 180.
Another former CCU star, San Diego Chargers running back Mike Tolbert caught eight passes for 73 yards and ran the ball nine times for 10 yards in a 35-21 loss to the New England Patriots. Tolbert leads the NFL in receptions with 17 through the first two weeks.
Atlanta Falcons defensive end John Abraham out of Lamar High, forced a fumble, made two tackles including one quarterback hit on Michael Vick, as the Falcons beat the Philadelphia Eagles 35-31 on Sunday night.
