Garden City-Murrells Inlet area native was dubbed the "standout of the day" at the Quicksilver 2011 USA Championship for the under 16-year-old surfing contest.
Standout Cam Richards, a student at St. James High School, is hoping to be crowned champion of the tournament.
The week-long event that brings the top U.S. junior surfing champions to California to compete for a place on the 2012 PacSun USA Surf Team. This year's USA Championships is taking place at San Onofre State Beach, June 21-25.
