Coastal Carolina 13 UConn 1

It was the most talked about pitching matchup in the opening round of the NCAA baseball tournament.  UConn's Matt Barnes is an expected top 15 pick in next week's MLB draft.  Coastal's Anthony Meo is supposed to go in the first two rounds.  It was Meo looking like a major leaguer on Friday at Clemson as Barnes was roughed up in Coastal's 13-1 rout of the Huskies.

Coastal opened the game by producing a run without a hit in the top of the 1st inning.  Scott Woodward led the game off with a walk.  He stole second base, was bunted over to 3rd and then scored on a sacrifice fly by Tommy LaStella.  After Meo worked through jams in the second and third innings without giving up a run, CCU got some breathing room in the 3rd as Tripp Martin had a base hit to left with two outs to bring home two runs and a 3-0 lead.  The Chants chased Barnes in the 5th with four runs highlighted by a Tommy LaStella HR.  LaStella would add a second homerun as the Chants tacked on runs in the 8th and 9th innings to cruise to a 13-1 win.

Clemson 11 Sacred Heart 1

The top seeded Tigers wasted no time in establishing an easy Friday night at Doug Kingsmore Stadium.  Clemson had a four run first inning capped off by a 2 run single by Chris Epps.  After scoring one run in the second, the Tigers exploded for six runs in the third.  John Hinson closed out the scoring with a three run blast to right field.  After the game, Jack Leggett announced that Dominick Leone will get the start on Saturday night at 7pm when Clemson takes on Coastal Carolina.

South Carolina 2 Georgia Southern 1

The Gamecocks defense of its national championship was tested by the 4th seeded Southern Conference Champions.  Down 1-0 in the 4th, USC evened the score with a sacrifice fly by Brady Thomas.  The game winner came in the 6th as Adrian Morales went the opposite way to right field.  USC had just four hits but it was enough as Michael Roth gets the win and Matt Price came on to shut the door getting the final five outs.   The Gamecocks will turn to Conway's Colby Holmes tomorrow night when USC takes on #2 seed Stetson in the winner's bracket.
