The Saint James Sharks were nine outs away from elimination, but a 7 run 5th inning sparked Saint James to a 10-3 win over Union to tie the best of three Class 3A state championship series at one game apiece. After Union blasted a leadoff home run to start the game, the Sharks got a 2 run base hit from Robert Troiano to take a 2-1 lead after one. The Jackets took a 3-2 lead in the 4th, but Saint James erupted in the 5th. Tanner English blasted a three homer to center to give the Sharks the lead for good. Gunnar Kines went the distance to secure the win for the Sharks. Game three is set for Saturday at 2pm on the campus of USC-Sumter. The game is being played on Friday due to Union's graduation on Friday. The winner of Saturday's game wins the 3A state crown.
In class 3A softball, Nation Ford swept Marlboro County with a 2-0 game two win in Bennettsville. Donna Hollingsworth hit a solo HR and Bradlee Holeman struck out ten to give the Fort Mill school a 3A state championship. Marlboro County finishes with a 27-6 record
In class 1A softball, Abbeville evened its best of three series with Lake View scoring a 1-0 win at home. Corrie New's RBI single in the 3rd inning was the game's only run. The best of three series is now tied at 1 game apiece. A winner take all third game is set for Friday night at 6pm at Irmo High School in the Midlands.
