The Mullins Auctioneers beat the Marion Swamp Foxes 68-47 to win a boys Class 2A Region 8 basketball championship tie-breaker game at Loris on Saturday night. Mullins guard Darnell Coleman led all scorers with 25 points.
Marion was paced by center Marquis McKelvy with 20 points, but the Swamp Foxes never threatened after trailing by nine at halftime. Mullins outscored Marion 21-10 in the third quarter and never looked back.
Mullins has earned the top seed out of Region 8. The Auctioneers will host Kingstree on Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the Class 2A State Playoffs. Marion will be the 2-seed out of Region 8. The Swamp Foxes will host Manning in the opening round.
