Stanley wins by one at Phoenix Open.
Kyle Stanley rallied from eight shots down at the beginning of the final round to win the Phoenix Open on Sunday in Scottsdale, Arizona. The former Clemson all-american finished the four rounds 15-under par to win by one shot over Ben Crane at TPC Scottsdale.
Stanley lost a five shot lead one week ago at Torrey Pines in San Diego. He triple bogeyed the final hole and lost in a playoff. The victory was sweet redemption for the 24-year old who shot 6-under par 65 and earned a $1,098,000 first place check.
Spencer Levin was six shots ahead of the field at the start of the round. He shot a 75 to finish two strokes behind Stanley.
Another former Clemson golfer, D.J. Trahan finished just three shots back and finished fourth. Ex-Coastal Carolina all-american Dustin Johnson shot 1-over par 72. He was even for the tournament, ending in a tie for 61st place.
