The Gamecock Fan Fest tour kicked off in Myrtle Beach on Monday as Gamecocks football coach Steve Spurrier and new men's basketball coach Frank Martin came to the Grand Strand to meet fans and sign autographs at the Ripken Experience. Spurrier started his day with 18 holes at the Dunes Club saying that the classic Grand Strand layout got the better of him on Monday.
Spurrier talked positively about the four team playoff coming to major college football and said that two injured running backs, Marcus Lattimore and Lake City's Shon Carson are both on track for pre-season training camp after extensive rehab work on their injured knees. Spurrier said that Carson would be ready to play if there was a game this weekend, while Lattimore is working his way towards getting up to full speed, but is expected to be at 100 percent by August.
Martin took time off the recruiting trail to make his first public appearance at the beach. Martin said the transition from Kansas State to Columbia has been easier because his entire staff from the Wildcats joined him with the Gamecocks. Martin has already made an impact in recruiting with four players committed to play for the Gameoccks.
