Amber Campbell will compete in the Olympics this summer for a second time.
Former Coastal Carolina five time All-American Amber Campbell has earned a return trip to the Olympics. Campbell won the women's hammer throw at the U.S. Track and Field Trials with a toss of 71.8 meters (235 feet, six inches) at Ronaldo Field at the Nike Worldwide Headquarters in Beaverton, Oregon. Campbell's hammer throw was the longest ever for a female at the Olympic trials.
The Myrtle Beach resident will be a part of the 2012 U.S. Olympic team at the games in London this summer. She became the first U.S. track and field athlete to qualify at the trials. Campbell did not medal in her first Olympic appearance at Beijing in 2008.
Amber, who goes by usahammerhottie on twitter, is still a volunteer assistant coach at Coastal Carolina. The 2012 London Summer Olympics will start on Friday, July 27 with the opening ceremonies. The women's hammer throw is scheduled for Friday, August 10.
