The long expected commitment by WR Shaq Roland (6-2 180) of Lexington to the South Carolina Gamecocks came down Saturday night according to recruiting guru Phil Kornblut. Roland, regarded by some analysts as the state's top prospect this season, disclosed the commitment on his Facebook page and then followed up with a phone call to USC receivers coach Steve Spurrier Jr. Roland becomes the 13th commitment for the Gamecocks' 2012 class and the third receiver to commit this week following Dillon High's Kwinton Smith and Jody Fuller. Roland had narrowed his decision to USC, Alabama, Georgia and Florida but the Gamecocks were in control throughout the process. Roland had 58 receptions last season for 1033 yards and 10 touchdowns. He also rushed for 684 yards and 10 touchdowns, and had 3 interceptions on defense. Roland is also considered one of the state's top basketball prospects but plans to focus on football at USC
