Clemson crushes Maryland on homecoming

Clemson now has a 9-1 record after beating Maryland.

The 10th ranked Clemson Tigers beat the Maryland Terrapins 45-10 on Saturday at Memorial Stadium in Clemson, South Carolina. It was Clemson's 12th straight home win, a school record at Death Valley.

Clemson ripped off 21 unanswered points in the first quarter and breezed to victory. Tajh Boyd hit Adam Humphries on a 13-yard TD pass to get the party started for the Tigers.

Later in the first quarter, Corey Crawford returned a fumble 16 yards for another Clemson score to make it 14-0. Boyd then threw a 28-yard TD pass to DeAndre Hopkins.

Boyd completed 18 of 26 passes for 261 yards and three scores.

Former WPDE All-Zone football star Spencer Benton out of Myrtle Beach High punted twice for Clemson, averaging 41.5 yards per kick. Another All-Zoner, Jaron Brown from Cheraw, had one catch for one yard. Jonathan "Tig" Willard from Loris had four tackles, Malliciah Goodman out of West Florence High had two tackles, one sack, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery. Marlboro County High product Lateek Townsend had two tackles. Lake View's Quandon Christian had one tackle and a forced fumble.

Clemson star wide receiver Sammy Watkins left the game in the second quarter with a lower leg injury. He had four catches for 60 yards.

Clemson's overall record improves to 9-1, 6-1 in the ACC. The Tigers will host N.C. State next Saturday, November 17 at Memorial Stadium in Clemson, South Carolina. Kickoff TBA.
