The Coastal Carolina Chanticleers eliminated the Bethune-Cookman Wildcats 24-14 in the first round of the FCS playoffs, in Daytona Beach, Florida on Saturday afternoon. It was the first post season win in the ten year history of the CCU football program.

Coastal breezed to a 17-0 halftime lead. Marcus Whitener capped a 75 yard second quarter drive on a 14-yard TD run to make it 7-0 Chants. Later in the quarter, Aramis Hillary threw a 3-yard TD pass to Matt Hazel to extend the lead to 14-0.

With under six minutes to play before halftime, Coastal's Johnny Houston forced a fumble that was recovered by teammate Quinton Davis at the Bethune-Cookman 43 yard line. Coastal cashed in with a 35 yard Alex Catron field goal to give the Chants a 17-0 halftime lead.

Early in the fourth quarter, Houston struck again. This time he returned an interception 68 yards to put the game out of reach at 24-0.

Bethune-Cookman rallied to close the gap with a pair of late scores. The Wildcats ended their season with a 9-3 record.

Coastal Carolina (8-4) advances to play at #4 seed Old Dominion (10-1) next Saturday, December 1, at S.B. Ballard Stadium in Norfolk, Virginia.  Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.

The Old Dominion Monarchs earned a first round bye in the playoffs.

ODU leads the country in total offense at 538.27 yards per game and is second in the country in passing offense and scoring offense.

This is the Monarchs' second ever appearance in the FCS playoffs. Last season ODU hosted Norfolk State in the first round, defeating the Spartans 35-18 before falling at Georgia Southern 55-48 in the second round.
