NASCAR Racing Experience will be a permanent fixture at Myrtle Beach Speedway.
Bob Lutz, Ray Watts and Andre Bauer are the new owners of Myrtle Beach Speedway. Improvements are already underway at the half-mile track and a new business model is in place.
Lutz is the founder of the NASCAR Racing Experience. It's a business that gives the general public a chance to drive or ride along in a NASCAR race car. Lutz is now operating the NASCAR Racing Experience full time at Myrtle Beach Speedway. He says his business was a natural fit with ownership of the track.
Ray Watts, owner of Apex Homes in North Carolina, is also a member of the ownership group that includes former South Carolina Lieutenant Governor Andre Bauer.
Lutz says he wants to bring a NASCAR Truck Series race to Myrtle Beach Speedway. The track is a former host of the NASCAR Busch Series, now called the Nationwide Series. Lutz says the track will need some major upgrades including SAFER (steel and foam energy reduction) barriers, before . The cost of SAFER barriers alone will cost more than one-half million dollars.
The NASCAR Weekly Racing Series, featuring late model stocks, will continue at Myrtle Beach Speedway. The new season begins May 5th.
