7th ranked Notre Dame beat 17th ranked Stanford in overtime to remain undefeated after six games. T.J. Jones caught a 7-yard touchdown pass from Tommy Rees, and the Notre Dame defense stopped Stanford at the goal line in the extra period to seal the deal, at Notre Dame Stadium in South Bend, Indiana.

Former Myrtle Beach High star Everett Golson completed 12 of 24 passes for 141 yards and one touchdown for Notre Dame. He left the game in the fourth quarter after a helmet-to-helmet hit, as Notre Dame was driving for a field goal, that tied the game 13-13. Golson's vision was blurred following the hit. He was not medically cleared to continue playing, giving way to Tommy Rees to finish the game at quarterback.

Golson also ran the ball 15 times for 41 yards. He had a long run of 23 yards.

Notre Dame is now 6-0 for the first time since 2002, after winning for the third time against a team ranked in the top 20.
