Former Myrtle Beach High star Everett Golson led #20 Notre Dame to an upset victory over the #10 Michigan State Spartans, before a crowd of 79,219 in East Lansing, Michigan on Saturday night. The two-time WPDE Zoneman winner threw a touchdown pass and ran for a score in the first half to lead the Fighting Irish to a win over a top-10 team for the first time in seven seasons.
Golson completed 14 of 32 passes for 178 yards, including a 36-yard scoring pass to John Goodman. Golson also scored on a 6-yard TD run to help Notre Dame build a 14-0 lead in the second quarter.
The Notre Dame defense held Michigan State to only 50 rushing yards and three points.
Notre Dame (3-0) is off to their best start in a decade. Michigan State (2-1) had their 15 game home win streak snapped.
Notre Dame will host the Michigan Wolverines next Saturday, September 22 in South Bend, Indiana at 7:30 p.m. EST. WPDE NewsChannel 15 Sports Director Rich Chrampanis will be on the sidelines to cover Golson and the Irish as they face (2-1) Michigan.
