Many college football fans saw it coming, but Thursday it became official. Myrtle Beach's Everett Golson has been named the starting quarterback for Notre Dame's 2012 opener against Navy in Dublin, Ireland. The redshirt freshman will make his college debut. The last game Golson started was Myrtle Beach High's state championship win over South Pointe at Williams-Brice Stadium in Columbia in 2010.
"They made the announcement that I'm the starter for Navy, that doesn't solidify that I'm the starter fo the whole season," Golson said following Thursday's Notre Dame practice. "I'm going to keep my foot on the gas."
"It was a tough decision, but Everett clearly won the job", Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly said. "If everything goes the way we planned, he will play the whole game."
Golson threw 151 TD passes at Myrtle Beach High and won WPDE's Zoneman Trophy in 2009 and 2010.
