FLORENCE, S.C. – Athletic Department officials at Francis Marion University have announced the hiring of Reghan Boob as the university’s new head athletic trainer.

Boob succeeds long-time trainer Spyder Webb who retired following the 2011-12 academic year after serving the Patriots for nearly 40 seasons.

Boob comes to Florence after three seasons as assistant trainer at fellow Peach Belt Conference member Lander University.  She also served as a clinical instructor and lecturer for the athletic training education program.

A native of Charlotte, she earned a B.S. degree in athletic training from Appalachian State University and later a M.A. degree in kinesiology and sport studies from East Tennessee State University.

Prior to joining the Lander staff, she was a graduate assistant athletic trainer at ETSU for two years, working primarily with the volleyball program.

FMU director of athletics Murray Hartzler said, “We are excited that Reghan has decided to join our staff.  It is never easy to replace a legend, but we have made a solid start.  Reghan already has experience in the Peach Belt and I look forward to watching her grow in her profession.  We have a solid foundation for our athletic training program and she will now have the opportunity to add to it.”

Boob earned National Athletic Trainers’ Association Board of Certification in 2008.

Francis Marion sponsors 12 intercollegiate sports, six for men and six for women.  Ten of the university’s sports programs are members of the NCAA Division II Peach Belt Conference, while men’s golf and women’s soccer programs compete as NCAA Division I independents.
