Gamecocks beat Arkansas 2-0 at College World Series
The South Carolina Gamecocks defeated the Arkansas Razorbacks 2-0 at the College World Series on Thursday night at TD Ameritrade Park in Omaha, Nebraska. The Gamecocks win forces an elimination game with Arkansas Friday night at 9 p.m.
The pride of Murrells Inlet, Tanner English, accounted for both of the Gamecocks runs. English doubled home Erik Payne in the second inning to give South Carolina a 1-0 advantage. Chase Vergason followed with an RBI single to get English across.
Gamecocks starting pitcher Jordan Montgomery tossed eight innings of three-hit shutout ball for South Carolina to pick up the victory.
The Gamecocks beat Kent State earlier in the day. The game was played at noon because it was rained out the night before. South Carolina is the third team in the 63-year history of the CWS to win two full games in the same day.
The winner of the Friday game between South Carolina and Arkansas will advance to play the Arizona Wildcats in a best-of-three championship series beginning on Sunday night at 8 p.m. EST.
