Darlington, South Carolina native Tommy "Two Gloves" Gainey finished third at the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas on Sunday. It is his best finish on the PGA Tour this season. Zach Johnson won the event.
Gainey shot a final round of 3-under par 67 to end the four days at 7-under. He earned $435,200 in prize money. The former assembly line worker for A.O. Smith Corporation is now 91st on the PGA money list this season. Gainey, 36, shot rounds of 66, 67, 73 and 67 at Colonial.
Johnson earned $1,152,000 for his eighth win on the PGA Tour. He finished 12-under for the tournament, just one stroke ahead of Jason Dufner. Johnson had a three shot lead on the final hole. But he was assessed a two-stroke penalty for failing to place his ball to the original position after marking before his final putt. Johnson took a double-bogey six on the final hole and signed for a par 72 score.
