Clemson loses at ACC Tournament
CCU has won six straight Big South Conference Tournament Championships.
The Coastal Carolina Chanticleers baseball team defeated the Liberty Flames 4-1 to win the Big South Conference Tournament Championship for a sixth consecutive year. Alex Buccilli singled home two runs in the first inning to give CCU the lead for good. Justin Creel capped a three-run first inning for the Chanticleers with an RBI single. Rich Witten provided some insurance in the seventh inning with a sacrifice fly that scored Ted Blackman. Ryan Connolly pitched 5.1 innings of shutout ball in relief and picked up the win. Coastal Carolina now has a record of 41-17. The Chanticleers have earned an automatic berth in the NCAA Tournament.
At the ACC Baseball Tournament, the Clemson Tigers lost to the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets 5-1. Georgia Tech starting pitcher Jake Davies hit a two-run homer and pitched six innings to pick up the win. Clemson's overall record falls to 33-26 heading into the NCAA Regionals. The 64-team NCAA Tournament field will be announced on Monday at 12:00 PM and will be televised by ESPNU.
