Conway native Colby Holmes will miss his scheduled start for South Carolina this Saturday against Alabama due a freak injury that happened on Wednesday during stretching at USC baseball practice. Head coach Ray Tanner calls the injury a muscle strain. Holmes has been a steady performer as the Gamecocks #3 starter on the weekend posting a 6-0 record with a 3.92 ERA.
The Gamecocks begin a three game series with the Crimson Tide beginning on Thursday night. Michael Roth will get the ball in the series opener with Sumter freshman Jordan Montgomery set to start on Friday. There's no word on who will toe the rubber in the series finale. Tanner could turn to mid-week starters Nolan Belcher or Adam Westmoreland.
