The 2012 Coastal Carolina Chanticleers Spring Game was held at Brooks Stadium before a reported crowd of 1,272 in Conway, South Carolina on Saturday afternoon.

New Coastal Carolina head football coach Joe Moglia officially declared Aramis Hillary as his number one quarterback. Hillary completed 12 of 16 passes for 106 yards. Hillary ran for one touchdown. Moglia said that he would make final determinations on his depth chart by Tuesday night, after looking at video from the spring game.

The Coastal Carolina offense is running a no-huddle fast paced offense under Moglia. He calls it the Coastal Wave. Second string quarterback Cody Craig completed 2 of 5 passes for 41 yards. His big strike came early in the scrimmage, completing a 35 yard pass to DeMario Bennett to set up the first touchdown of the contolled scrimmage.

Niccolo Mastromatteo caught five passes for 40 yards to lead all receivers. Sammie Kennedy had two grabs for 26 yards and Jeremy Height had one catch for 22 yards.

The Coastal Carolina defenses stopped the running game for most of the day. Craig was the leading rusher with six carries for 30 yards. Alex Ross carried the ball four times for 15 yards and a touchdown near the end of the spring game. Zach Silverberg had five rushes for 19 yards and one touchdown.

Philip George led all tacklers with six stops on defense. Andrae Jacobs had five tackles. Dawan Thompson had a big day with four tackles, a pass break-up and a punt block.

Former Conway High player Mark Singleton made one interception and had one tackle.

Running back Travis Small missed the spring game with a foot injury. Tight End David Duran missed the game with a shoulder injury.

Coach Moglia said he is concerned with the kicking game. Punters averaged less than 30 yards a punt during the spring game with one blocked. Alex Catron did kick a 39-yard field goal. Grant Clayton was good on a 31-yard field goal but missed an extra point.

The spring game marks the end of fifteen March and April workouts for the Chanticleers heading into next fall.
