The #1 Florida Gators beat the #6 South Carolina Gamecocks 5-4 on Saturday before a crowd of 8,242 at Carolina Stadium in Columbia. The Gators won the series two games to one. Gamecocks starting pitcher Colby Holmes out of Conway High lasted only three innings. He gave up a pair of solo homers but did not get the decision. With the game tied 3-all in the ninth, Florida's Nolan Fontana drove in two runs with a triple to give the Gators a 5-3 lead. The Gamecocks overall record drops to 17-7, 1-5 in the SEC. Florida improved their overall record to 22-5, 5-1 in the SEC.
The Virginia Cavaliers beat the Clemson Tigers 5-1 in Charlottesville, Virginia before a crowd of 3,033 at UVa Baseball Stadium. Virginia junior right-hander Branden Kline went the distance, tossing a 2-hitter. Steve Wilkerson scored the Tigers only run. He led off the game with a triple and scored on a Jason Stolz ground out. Clemson and Virginia will wrap up the series on Sunday, March 25 at 1:00 p.m. Clemson's overall record falls to 11-10, 3-5 in the ACC.
