Colby Holmes tossed five shutout innings in the Gamecocks 3-1 win over Princeton on Sunday.
The South Carolina Gamecocks defeated the Princeton Tigers 3-1 on Sunday, before a crowd of 7,122 at Carolina Stadium in Columbia. Gamecocks starting pitcher Colby Holmes, a product of Conway High, threw five shutout innings with six strikeouts to run his record to 3-0. Erik Payne had two of only five hits on the day for the Gamecocks. Payne hit his first college home run and finished with two RBI. The Gamecocks record improved to 13-1.
The North Carolina Tar Heels completed a three game sweep of the Clemson Tigers with a 6-5 win in 11 innings on Sunday at Doug Kingsmore Stadium in front of 4,368 fans. North Carolina's Mike Zolk stroked a two-out run-scoring base hit in the 11th to take the series three games to none. Clemson is now 6-7 overall and 0-3 in the ACC.
The Coastal Carolina Chanticleers beat the Ohio State Buckeyes for a second straight day at Watson Stadium in Conway. Tucker Frawley's bases loaded single in the bottom of the 12th inning gave the Chants a 3-2 victory over the Buckeyes. CCU improved their record to 8-6.
