College Baseball: Gamecocks win, Clemson and CCU lose

The 3rd ranked South Carolina Gamecocks beat the Princeton Tigers 2-1 on Friday in Columbia. Gamecocks starting pitcher Michael Roth struck out 10 over eight and two-thirds innings to improve his record to 2-0. Kyle Martin had three hits including a solo homer to lead the South Carolina offense. It was career win number 700 for South Carolina head coach Ray Tanner. The Gamecocks improve to 11-1 on the season.

The 6th ranked North Carolina Tar Heels edged the 19th rated Clemson Tigers 4-3 before a crowd of 4,441 fans at Doug Kingsmore Stadium in Clemson. It was Jack Leggett's 1,200th career game as Clemson head coach. The Tigers fall to 6-5 overall and 0-1 in the ACC.

The Toledo Rockets scored three times in the top of the 11th inning to beat the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers 10-7 in the Chanticleer Classic before 275 fans at Watson Stadium. CCU falls to 6-5 on the season.
