The South Carolina Gamecocks completed a three game sweep over Elon on Sunday with a 6-0 victory. Conway High product Colby Holmes tossed 5.2 scoreless innings with six strikeouts to record his second win of the season, before a crowd of 7,304 at Carolina Stadium in Columbia. Former St. James High star Tanner English accounted for half of the Gamecocks offense. The freshman out of Murrells Inlet drove in two runs with a triple and scored once in three at bats. The Gamecocks are now 6-0 on the year.
The Clemson Tigers beat the Maine Black Bears 9-6 in front of a crowd of 3,989 at Doug Kingsmore Stadium in Clemson. The Tigers rallied from a six-run deficit to take two out of three from Maine. Steve Wilkerson led the Clemson attack with a career-high four hits. He drove in two runs and scored three times. Clemson is now 4-2 on the year.
The Coastal Carolina Chanticleers beat the N.C. State Wolfpack with 876 fans looking on a BB&T Coastal Field in their final game at the Baseball at the Beach Tournament. CCU's Justin Creel went 3-for-3, scored a run and drew a bases loaded walk to lead the Chanticleers to victory. Coastal is now 3-3 on the year.
