24-year old Kyle Stanley was poised to win for the first time on the PGA Tour. The former Clemson all-american had a five shot lead entering the final round at the Farmers Insurance Open. He led by three going to the final hole. But Stanley hit a wedge shot into the water and would triple-bogey, sending him to a two-hole sudden death playoff that was eventually won by Brandt Snedeker.

Snedeker was seven shots behind the leader at the beginning of the day. He shot 5-under par 67 to finish the tournament at -16. Stanley shot 2-over par 74 and was also -16 for the tourney.

Both men birdied the first hole of sudden death. On the second extra hole, Snedeker sank his par putt and Stanley missed to end the event. Brandt Snedeker earned more than $1,080,000 for his victory at Torrey Pines in La Quinta, Californa. Stanley's second place prize money is $640,000.
